Give an account of the Anglo marata and mysoor wars
Anglo Marata and Mysoor wars
The Anglo Marat and Mysoor wars were series of military confrontations. They involved the British and the Mysore rulers in India. Their first war had occurred between 1767 and 1769. The two forces had hard times coming up with a conclusion because Haidar had initiated chaos at the Madras gates, which ignited the wars. Due to these occurrences, the English had to sign treaties with Haidar, which provided slaves, prisoners, and lands. Their second Anglo-Mysore war took place between 1780 and 1784 (Ahuja & Christof-Füchsle,2020). It arose after the British failed to honor their signed treaty. Haidar lost trust and worked with the French, who were more resourceful in terms of firearms and other war materials. British were unhappy about the union and tried to recapture Mahe, guarded by the Haiders’ army.
The third war was between 1790 and 1792. It started after an attack by the English ally, who were the only pepper suppliers. Mangalore and Tipu were trying to secure their supremacy and independence. The main reason for this was the alliance between the British and Travancore. The fourth war was in 1799. Most nations were struggling to solve and regain their losses. The fourth war lasted between April to May of the same year (Ahuja & Christof-Füchsle,2020). British Generals emerged winners. Marathas had aided the win against Tipu for the benefits of having their territory and lands’ share. Many leaders and armies lost their lives during these wars
