Lister’s antiseptic method was the main factor in bringing about the acceptance of Germ Theory. Until the Germ Theory was accepted around the 1860s, surgeons ignored taking precautions in protecting open wounds from infection. They started taking precautions after Lister discovered that the carbolic spray helped in preventing wounds from getting into contact with gangrene. He came up with the antiseptic method of spraying catgut, bandages, and medical instruments.
