The word ‘but’ in line 7 indicates a shift in the poem. What change occurs here?
With Maurice Halbwachs's work on mémoire collective at the turn of the twentieth century, cultural memory studies arose. This field of research has experienced a veritable boom in numerous countries and disciplines over the previous two decades. As a result, there are now a variety of techniques to studying the relationship between culture and memory. Cultural memory is now a remarkable interdisciplinary issue: concepts of cultural memory circulate throughout history, social and political science, philosophy and theology, psychology, neuroscience, and psychoanalysis, as well as literary and media studies. At times, these conceptions appear to converge; at other times, they appear to exclude one another; and all too often, researchers in one discipline appear to reject researchers in another.
