Testimony by chris mann
Based on the first stanza of the poem, how do you think the speaker feels about the
person he is addressing? Is this feeling different from how he felt in the past? Explain.
The speaker has lost all feelings for the person. "I used to, when we were young, and words like love were tumbling in our thoughts," the speaker says, describing a nostalgic feeling of what they used to do with the person they are addressing. These are wistful sentiments the speaker still has about the individual to whom he or she is speaking. The primary idea is that the speaker has lost all feelings of love for the person to whom he is speaking, as he states, "I do not love you anymore."
