1. The tone of the poem changes from the first stanza to the last stanza. The tone in the first stanza is a very sincere tone. The persona is very sincere about the love she had for her lover. she says, "I do not love you anymore", very sincere and still goes ahead to open up about what that love meant to him.
The tone in the last stanza is a regressive tone is a regressive tone. The persona regrets the fact that they cannot be together and is only reminiscing what they had. She says,"And when I recollect your flying curls...and see you standing in a midnight doorway once again".
The tone of the persona changes from being sincere to regressive, The persona begins by being sincere about how she feels about her lover and later regrets the fact that she feels so and wish they could be together again.
