The poem Testimony by Chris Mann
1. The word 'but' in line 7 indicates a shift in the poem. What change occurs here? ((1))
2. In line 9-11, the speaker mentions numerous aspects of life that have influenced his relationship with the addressee. Describe one of the life events that the speaker mention. What did the experience teach the speaker and his partner about love? ((3))
1] It is true that the word but brings a shift in the poem. The change occurs in the manner of description of time. In the previous stanza, Chris shows youthful love has faded but in line 7 he begins the story in a different time of the current and how they have been occupied to forget seeing life in the lens of life.
2] One event that the speaker mentions is stress of work and terror at the loss of work which means they have been occupied by it that the magnitude of love has lost meaning. Endurance is the experience that the speaker has learnt much in the scene of their love that even they have gone through a lot, they are still able to maintain their love and that's why he ends up saying he loves her more than ever.
