Assess in THREE ways the importance of accountability in a democracy
Accountability in democracy prevents economic corruption since one has to explain and be accountable of how they used funds. Any explanation that do not add up to the superiors means that the person is liable of being corrupt and appropriate actions taken against the person. Therefore, accountability in democracy prevents corruption of major leaders.
Accountability brings out if the leaders are after the interest of the people or they are pursuing their own interest. This is determined in situations where the civil servants elected are not developing any infrastructure or not addressing any current issue affecting the citizens. When there is no development whatsoever, then the civil servants are accountable of answering to the citizens and public. This moves keeps the leaders on the right move and not redirect the citizens funds for their own interest.
Accountability makes the citizens and the government to feel more connected by enabling the citizens to check the moves the government are conducting to fulfill the needs of its citizens. Accountability makes the government to be accountable and explains all activities to the citizens in a democratic world, which makes the citizens having doubts to be convinced. This might prevent further problems like demonstrations or strikes by the citizens.
