Directions: After reading “America’s nonviolent civil rights movement was considered uncivil by critics at the time” by Peniel E. Joseph, answer the following questions. Make sure to do so thoughtfully using evidence and reasoning, and with a minimum of 4 sentences for each.
Question: Joseph equates Black Lives Matter protests, March for Our Lives rallies, and #MeToo demonstrations as our modern-day Civil Rights issues. Do you agree that these are comparable to what Martin Luther King, Jr fought for? Why or why not?
I agree that the King used peaceful protest to fight for justice, and that he gave some of the most famous speeches of the twentieth century. Martin Luther King, Jr. is a civil rights icon who led the civil rights movement in the United States to end segregation and combat discrimination via peaceful protest.Through peaceful protest, King sought equality and human rights for African Americans, the economically poor, and all victims of injustice. He advocated for nonviolent solutions to some of society's most pressing issues.
