Grade R topic:IN MY CLASSROOM
How would you adapt this 3 possible strategies GUESSING;QUESTIONING and IMAGINING to move learners from the known to the unknown??
Introducing objects such as shapes and toys is the first step. Allow them to interact with these objects, learn their names and descriptions such as colour. They can also be taught what functions they serve in real life if they are toys like legos or trucks. Having toys that are specific to a career type, eg imitations of objects in a hospital may help to have a more guided and focused session. Afterwards, there can be an exercise where the learners are required to imagine new objects or shapes and give them descriptions. This is where the questionning stage can come in, whereby the learners are asked and can ask each other what their imagined objects are and what purpose they serve. The responses should be encouraged and interrogated such that the learner is challenged to consider new aspects.
