  1. Antigone picks up in the same (uber-dismal) place that Oedipus at Colonus leaves off. Oedipus has just passed away in Colonus, and Antigone and her sister decide to return to Thebes with the intention of helping their brothers, Eteocles and Polyneices, avoid a prophecy that predicts they will kill each other in a battle for the throne of Thebes.
  2. At this point, Ismene decides she wants to die with her sister, but Antigone says that even if Ismene dies it will not lessen the death of Antigone. Creon then thought Ismene had something to do with the burial of Polynieces, but Antigone told Creon that Ismene had absolutely no part in it.
