Assessment is a planned process of identifying, gathering, and interpreting information about learners. It involves generating and collecting evidence of achievements, evaluating this evidence, recording the findings, and using the information to understand and improve the learner's process of learning.it consists of;
Informal or daily assessment -This is an assessment for learning that has the purpose of continuously collecting information on the learner's achievement that can be used to improve learning. Informal assessment is the daily monitoring of the learner's progress for example through observation, discussion, and demonstration. It should be used to provide feedback to the learners and inform planning for teaching.
Formal assessment- Tasks are marked and formally recorded by the teacher for progression and certification purposes. They are subject to moderation and include; examination, tests, and tasks. In social studies, history and geography must be assessed differently.
Recording and Reporting- This is whereby the teacher documents the level of a learner's performance in specific tasks.
Moderation of assessment- This is the process that ensures that the assessment tasks are fair, valid, and reliable.
