In the history of the United States, several social issues have been important. As situations and values have evolved, many of them have waxed and waned over time. In the United States, the word "social issue" has a broad definition, referring not just to problems that need to be addressed but also to any topic that has sparked extensive discussion and involves deeply held values and views. The Library of Congress maintains a database of American social causes. Academic fraud, church-state separation, hacking, evolution teaching, gangs, hate speech, suicide, urban sprawl, and labor unions are just a few examples. When a new president is elected, social issues become more prominent. Many social topics are mentioned during discussions, such as abortion rights, LGBT rights, and gun regulation, and these concerns often influence elections.

Bribes, tax evasion, exchange controls, embezzlement, and other forms of corruption exist in India. According to 2005 research conducted by Transparency International (TI) India, more than half of the respondents had firsthand experience paying a bribe or peddling influence to complete a task at a government agency. The loss to the exchequer and a rise in the cost of government-subsidized services are the main economic effects of corruption, as are an unfavorable investment climate, political instability, and unethical ethics. According to the TI India study, the monetary worth of small corruption in eleven government-provided fundamental services, such as education, healthcare, the court, and the police, is estimated to be around Rs.21,068 crores. India is in the bottom quartile of emerging countries in terms of ease of doing business, and when compared to China and other less developed Asian countries, the average time taken to obtain clearances for a company or to declare bankruptcy is significantly longer.
