In the play “A Raisin in the Sun” by Lorraine Hansberry
Reason #1: Walter uses his sister’s money to open up his business even though his mother told him not to.
Proof: (Quotation #1): Lena says, “You mean ... your sister’s school money ... you used that too ... Walter?” (Hansberry 120).
Reason #2: Walter did not care if his wife had an abortion because having another child would stop him from opening up his business.
Proof (Quotation #2): Lena says, “Your wife says she is going to destroy your child. And I’m waiting to hear you talk like him and say we are a people who give children life, not who destroy them” (72).
George and his family, on the other hand, think that they should grow wealthy and gain respect as a result of their economic status, which necessitates some kind of assimilation into the dominant, white society. Mama is initially impressed by George's wealth and status, but she eventually agrees with Beneatha.
Walter Lee Younger, like many of the other characters, has a significant metaphorical meaning. He represents hope, ambition, dreams, desires, passion, and anger. All of those attributes are applied to his own achievement and the well-being of the family if taken at face value.
