The speaker decides to reject the comparison of his beloved and summer’s day because he says that his beloved is more lovely and lasts longer as compered to a summer's day and that there is summer which resides in his beloved that does not fade. The speaker also says that his beloved will not fade as summer does and even though his beloved must go sometime, death will not brag. He also says that his beloved will always be more beautiful, and more desired than a summer’s day. The speaker goes on to explain that the summer can be too hot and can pass too quickly unlike his beloved who are more temperate. The speaker finally says that the summer is too brief, and that beloved's loveliness has greater longevity.
