Design and implement a structured task for grade 7 learners with the theme
“renewable and non-renewable sources of energy”. In your design, clearly indicate
what the teacher and learners will be doing in each phase of the inquiry cycle. Then
reflect on what happened during the implementation of the task.
Non-renewable energy includes coal, gas and oil. Most cars, trains and planes use non-renewable energy. They are made by burning fossil fuels to create energy. Renewable energy includes solar, hydro and wind energy.
A learning cycle lesson consists of three phases: concept exploration, concept introduction, and concept application.
The teaching and learning cycle (TLC) involves four key stages which incorporate social support for reading, writing and speaking and listening through varied interactional routines (whole group, small group, pair, individual) to scaffold students' learning about language and meaning in a variety of texts
