Resistance occurs when employees don't understand how they fit in with the new way of doing things. Resistance in an organization can be managed through the following ways; firstly, being persuasive. The managers should engage employees in the change by being energized leaders. Focus on opportunities and persuade rather than assert authority. Secondly, empower innovation and creativity. Organizations can manage resistance by giving opportunities for feedback and remain flexible as you alter course toward your change goals. Encourage people to be creative, discover solutions to unfolding problems, and become part of the change process. Thirdly, remaining positive and supportive. Employees find change troubling, even though the change is a constant in personal lives as well as professional environments. Therefore they will need the support of a positive leader who inspires free thought, honest communication, and inspiration, as personal and team growth is encouraged.

Fourthly, Show passion. Leaders should communicate passionately and be an example of belief in the future vision. This is because when other people see leaders’ behaviors emulating those required by change, they quickly come into line with the new behaviors and become change advocates themselves. Fifthly, Participation. Resistance in an organization can be managed if the people who are affected by the organizational change are allowed to involve in the design and implementation of the change.

Another way of managing resistance is through offering education to the organizational resistors. This is because employees need to be educated about the nature of the change, its rationale, its benefits, and the way of implementing it. Lastly, through negotiation. It is possible to reach an acceptable agreement between the party that is at the disadvantage due to the change and the party that wants to do the change.
