Trying to listen to more than one conversation at a time,this is like trying to listen to someone on the phone at the same time talking to another person which is impossible.

Finding the communicator attractive/ unattractive, this makes one to have interest or lose interest on the communicator

Making judgements, this is like thinking someone is not qualified for the job or not very bright.

Being biased ,this can either be by race, religion,age and gender

Having preconceived ideas, effective listening includes being open minded to opinions and ideas of others, the person doesn't need to be correct but should be able to understand the ideas.

The obstacles can be improved in these ways,

Being open minded to other people's ideas

Not being fast at judging

Concentrating to one speaker at a go

Not being biased
