1.2 Explain the following forms of assessment and provide one example of how you will use each of them to support learners who experience barriers to learning in the teaching and learning environment.
1.1.1 Base line assessment
It offers information on the situation the learning aims to change. It offers a critical reference point for assessing changes and impact, as it creates a basis for comparing the situation before and after an intervention, and for making inferences as to the
effectiveness of the learning.
Example: The teacher needs to determine if the students will be capable of understanding the learning outcomes, teacher will give the learners different types of activities to determine what learners know already. This is normally done before a new topic is introduced
(5) 1.1.2 Formative assessment
It gives feedback and information during the instructional process, while learning is taking place, and while learning is occurring. It measures student progress but it can also assess your own progress as an instructor.
Example : ANALYZING STUDENT WORK to gain knowledge about A student's current knowledge, attitudes, and skills about subject matter
(5) 1.1.3 Diagnostic assessment
Can help you recognize the student’s current knowledge of a subject, their set of skill and capabilities, and to clarify misconceptions before teaching takes place. By knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the students can help you to plan better what to teach and how to teach it.
Examples: Informal Reading Assessments and Surveys
