Explain why it is important that learners understand the notion of democracy in the new South African (after apartheid) (6)
South Africa's change from apartheid to democracy marked the beginning of a new era where an equilibrium was established to enhance the welfare of the black majority and white minority as indicated through the improved access to housing, clean water and infrastructure. Moreover, the constitution in post-apartheid South Africa enshrines the rule of law having gained popular support from all racial groups in South Africa thus promoting social and economic change although in a gradual pace.
