I intend to teach English.
General strategies I could use in my classroom to improve student self-efficacy and how I could use them include:
- Helping students lay out a specific learning strategy and have them verbalize their plan. As students proceed through the task, I will ask students to note their progress and verbalize the next steps [Schunk and Pajares, 2002].
- Establish specific, short-term goals that will challenge the students yet are still viewed as attainable [Schunk and Pajares, 2002]. This goals help in keeping track of their progress as we continue.
Provide a rationale for choosing these strategies.
- Mastery experiences refer to the experiences we gain when we take on a new challenge and succeed. The best way to learn a skill or improve our performance by practice; part of the reason this works so well is that we are teaching ourselves that we are capable of acquiring new skills.
