Balfour (2016) examines the decline in the numbers of state schools and proposes reasons for this phenomenon. Briefly discuss the reasons for this decline.
Ineffective leadership
This factor leads to decline in state schools in that heads of schools lack the ability to provide visionary and inspirational leadership. Poor leadership will lead to decline in enrolment and if the staff do not believe in the leadership it will be difficult for it to grow.
Staffing issues
For a school to grow this sector should be enrolled to capacity to run the school smoothly, resources should be put in place for them and staff should do the right thing at the right time. If this sector is messed with the school will not grow leading to a decline in state schools.
Quality and satisfaction issues
This factor leads to a decline in state schools because if survey is done to assess quality of the school, this through the feedback of parents, staff and learners. If all these people are dissatisfied the it leads to decline.
Environmental issues
Issues surrounding the school can affect the school, this can be the local economy, local environment or community surrounding the school
Enrolment and marketing plan
A school should have a good plan as it can always be adjusted depending on the trends and results along the way. Without this the enrolment will decline leading to shutting down the school.
