Write down your own positive and negative experiences of direct instruction as a teacher and as a learner.
Direct instruction is where a teacher uses explicit teaching techniques to teach a specific skill to students.
As a teacher, the positive experiences of direct instruction include; the teacher can be able to cover the curriculum and finish it in time. Also, the teacher controls what is learnt in class, the timing of the lesson and its easier to monitor the students.
The negative experiences include; it limits the teacher's ability to improvise while teaching because it follows a step by step procedure. It
is also disastrous if a teacher does not prepare well for the lesson.
As a learner, direct instruction as a positive experience allows a learner to learn in his or her own pace. It keeps students engaged in the lesson. Lastly, it helps a learner to improve academically.
Negative experiences include, the students are not divided into groups therefore cannot learn from each othee. There are no experiments done during a lesson so that learners can observe and record their findings. Lastly, there is very little student participation involved during the lesson.
