1.What documents from Department of Basic Education or the school do you have that guides you assessment?

  • Scheme of work
  • Lesson plan
  • Individualized education plan
  • Record of work

2. What kind of formal assessment tasks do you give learners?

  • Essays
  • Group work
  • Journals
  • Oral presentations
  • Seminars
  • Field work.

3. How often do you give these formal assessment tasks?

Students need to be tested as often as a teacher needs to evaluate their learning for more effective instruction. It is usually a minimum of once every ten weeks for all areas. However, for some areas like oral fluency, the teacher will want to assess more often.

 4. How long does it takes to complete one task to assess the whole class?

The academic credit model is based on classroom contact hours. The consensus in U.S. higher education is that one college credit requires 15 hours of classroom time plus two or three additional hours of homework time per hour of classroom time.

5.which language skill is the most difficult to assess formally? Please explain why?

Writing is the most difficult skill to master because the sentences you write must be built correctly and perfectly. If you make a mistake while speaking, noone will probably care about it but a written mistake is always noticeable.

6.What do you like about the formal assessment requirements?

You can choose to design alternate tasks that will meet the needs of students learning from home. For example, you could change:

  • duration - a shorter task that assesses the same learning outcomes
  • method of delivery - rather than a live speech, students could submit a recording the due date.

7.What do you find challenging about the formal assessment? Please explain why- Formative assessment is too time consuming. One can put the instructional time on a video as a flipped lesson. Use it in class time while differentiating and using formative assessment.

8. What changes would you like to see regarding assessment? Please explain why?

Consider co-designed student formative and summative projects that incorporate a variety of learning skills and interconnected content. Consider our students makers in the most highly intrinsic sense. When we allow students to have control of how and what they learn, the more curiosity becomes a part of that process.

9. How do you record the assessment information for each child in the class

  1. Program-developed child assessment tools are developed to align with a specific program’s philosophy and curriculum.
  2. Published child assessment tools have been researched and tested and are accepted as a credible source in assessing children’s development.

10.How do you report to parents?

Schools are required to provide a written (print or digital) student report at least twice a year to the parents or carers of each child enrolled at the school and should be accessible to the parents.
