Folk tales are traditional stories passed down from generation to generation, with their popularity stemming from their imaginative characters, their supernatural elements, their focus on action, their happy endings and the fundamental wisdom they contain. There are various types of folk tales, among them myths, fairy tales and legends. Myth is a folklore genre comprising of supernatural characters and deeply symbolic narratives that play a fundamental role in society. Fairy tales consist of stories of supernatural wonders typically depicting the conflict between good and evil, with the wonder being derived from a supernatural element. A legend is a genre of folk tales comprising of a narrative featuring human actions perceived by the teller and listeners to have taken place within human history.
