Curriculum is plan or program of all experiences which the learner encounters under the direction of a school. Tyler opined three concepts including knowledge, social pedagogy, and personal growth which he considered key in curriculum development process. Tyler regarded learning as one of the main objectives of schooling. His model therefore focused on the means of achieving the objective.

Tyler developed three concepts that provided a roadmap for the development of curriculum, that is planning, implementation and evaluation. In this model, model, the educational objectives are first planned, and the purpose for the school is established. Then follows the the instructional strategy and formulation of objectives and finally the evaluation to determine the effectiveness of the curriculum.

Tyler's model is considered simple in that the curriculum design is rational, logical and goal oriented.
