4.1 The three principles of symbolic interactionism are meaning, language, and thinking. Meaning refers to the understanding developed by learners from aspects in their social environment. I would expose learners in classroom to videos and pictures that help them develop a positive meaning concerning education. Language helps in the communication of meaning. I would ensure that language accurately conveys the benefits of learning. Thinking refers to the thought process of learners. In the classroom I would encourage critical thinking in order to strengthen problem solving skills.
4.2 Concept of social placement is the use of education to equip learners with the necessary skills to strengthen their self esteem and foster a sense of importance and acceptance within the learning environment.
4.3 Hidden curriculum are the subtle and often unintentional outcomes of the learning process. Examples include the realization that virtues are generally rewarding and the sharpening of social and communication skills.
4.4 Schools in South Africa can be primarily understood from the functionalism theory in education. In essence, education is seen as a tool to acquire skills in order to meet the demands of the job market. Course choices are made based on the demand of various professions in the society.
