I agree with the notion. It's not always the case that you'll understand something the first time you read it. This, however, varies from person to person. Some people's brains process information rapidly, while others take longer. Understanding what you're reading involves multiple steps. The first level is pre-reading. Setting a reading goal, previewing the text, and using existing knowledge are all part of the process. In the second step, the actual reading, the reader makes and revises predictions. You'll proceed to the final step after you've done reading. It allows the reader to recount the story, answer questions, and even write summaries depending on what they've read. This leads to understanding.
