a) Identify all the morphemes that make up the following words: ‘establishment’ and ‘reload’
Explain the function of each of the morphemes you have identified in creating meaning in each word. (6 marks)
b) The suffix –ed in the word revised can either be an inflectional or derivational morpheme, depending the context. Write two sentences in which you show the difference in use
Free morpheme; Establishment .suffix Establishment.Gives the word its principle meaning.
Bound morpheme; Reload- Re-load Re is used as a prefix to alter the meaning of a word by building on a base. Reload means to redo something once again.
Inflectional morpheme modifies the tense. Revised shows the time the work was corrected which is past tense. An example is, Jane revised for her examinations thoroughly.
Derivational morpheme alters the meaning of a word by building on a base for example Revise is the base word when -ed is added revised means a work that has been amended. An example is, Jane revised her project's objective to align with the goals.
