Thematic: This is also known as thematic learning, teaching across the curriculum or integrated study. Basic school subjects are studied in light of a particular topic, theme or historical periods instead of isolated subjects. It works well for a child pulled out of school that is burned out of learning or multiple children in different grades.
Traditional: This is the traditional workbook approach familiar to those who attended American public schools. It is grade specific. It works well for a child used to being in school or a first time home-schooling parent.
Programmed: This is often based on self-paced, sequential work book. It requires no preparation. It works well for a family in transition or a mother who just had a baby.
Classical: It involves stages of learning that coincide with a child's cognitive development. It works well for families with children close in ability level.
Technological: This includes internet and software based programs. It provides a structured learning so that the child can learn more independently.
