Formative assessments refers to a wide variety of methods that teachers use to conduct in-process evaluations of student comprehension, learning needs and academic progress during a lesson, unit or course.
Formative assessments are used to;
- Help teachers identify concepts that students are struggling to understand.
- Help teachers identify the skills that the students' are facing challenges in acquiring.
- Help teachers identify the learning standards that the students have not achieved so as to make necessary adjustments to lessons and instructional techniques.
- Help students identify their strengths and weaknesses and target areas that need work.
- Provide the students with the ability to track their educational goals.
