Do you agree with the factors associated with increased levels of happiness?
I don’t agree with the factors associated with happiness as projected by David Brooks in “The Happiness Factor”. I hold a different opinion on the role of the unconscious mind and conscious mind in happiness levels. According to science, our conscious is responsible for our awareness and rationality. Thus, the conscious mind is more active in human happiness because it influences emotions, memories and perceptions of our current awareness, which are features directly tied to human happiness. I also believe careers, property and wealth are not overrated reasons for happiness. These factors cause heightened levels of happiness in some individuals just like personal relationships do. It is true that marriage causes happiness and contentment for many. However, the marriage institution has also been the cause of unhappiness for many others in the case of unfulfilling relationships. The correlation between money and happiness is strong and should not be underrated like Brooks does. Money has the ability to buy or facilitate things or spaces causing happiness.
