Writing pieces ae very essential in the lives of a human being. More so school going kids. These are the people are supposed to read more books not only for examination purposes, but also for their lives outside school environment. For the purpose of eliciting the imaginations of the learners, it is a virtue for writers or rather authors to employ some stylistic devices that will perform this function. The following are some of the stylistic devices that are used by authors to enhance the thinking capacity of learners:
i. Overstatement and understatement – This is a method whereby the writer makes something that is small to be very minute and at the same time make something that is big to be very huge. An example of children’s novel where these stylistic device are have been applied is “Charlotte’s Web” by an author called E.B. White.
ii. Personification – This is a method whereby non-living things or animals are given the same features as those one of human beings. An example of a story book where this method has been used is “The Giver” by Lois Lowry.
