The Spaniards were the people who colonized the Philippines. This colonization is documented as one that took a very longer period of time. The Philippines colonial period began in the year 1521. That was the year that the renowned Spanish explorer Ferdinand Magellan reached that the Philippines Island. Perhaps, he was the person who went and inform his country-men and women to scramble for a partition in Philippines Islands. That is how the Spain managed to colonize the Philippines. The colonization period lasted until the Philippine Revolution of 1898.
The long period of colonization made it possible for the indigenous Philippines people to forget their culture and began practicing that one of the Spanish people. Even to date, the national language of people from the Philippines Islands is Spanish. Their native language got eroded in the colonization period.
