Climate change can affect our society through impacts on a number of different social, cultural, and natural resources. For example, climate change can impact on human health, infrastructure, and transportation systems, as well as energy, food, and water supplies. Floods, the most common and deadly natural disasters in the U.S., will likely be exacerbated and intensified by sea level rise and extreme weather. Heavy precipitation is projected to increase throughout the century to potentially three times the historical average. As insurance companies pay out huge amounts to homeowners whose houses have been damaged by climate change impacts, many are raising premiums to offset their costs. Also, as we rely more heavily on air conditioners and fans, electricity bills will get higher.
