Global warming is said to be the gradual heating up of the Earth's surface and atmosphere. This is as a result of human activity brought about by the burning of fossil fuels that in turn pumps greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere.

The accumulated gases in the atmosphere in turn absorb the radiation from the sun that would have otherwise escaped to space. The absorbed radiation or trapped heat consequently causes a rise in the planet's temperature. This chain reaction has been dubbed the greenhouse house effect.

Mainly including deforestation and industrial activities, various factors have been seen to influence the building up of global warming. Events like the changing of migration patterns by animals and the melting of ice caps and glaciers are clear indicators that the world is heating up.

There is need for much to be done globally if the effect of greenhouse gases is to be mitigated. Possible steps to take include the use of renewable sources of energy, reforestation, and the formulation of agencies that will check on greenhouse emmisions among others. These steps will not only help in curbing further release of these greenhouse gases, but also cut back on the amount that is already released into our atmosphere.
