How do movement and pattern relate to each other? What technique is used to achieve movement and pattern?
All human movement is organized and patterned. Any movement, whether normal or abnormal, can be described as a pattern. For instance, in lateral arm raise, the supraspinatus institutes the movement while the deltoid finishes the arm's raise to 90 degrees (Woodruff, 2003). An inactive deltoid makes another muscle like the ipsilateral upper trapezius conduct the movement; this is called a dysfunctional, abnormal, or poor pattern. An optimal pattern would utilize a clear starting and follow-through via the deltoid without lifting the shoulder and without any additional action. Movement and pattern are developed through habitual utilization. A practice of poor muscle activation results in a poor pattern in the central nervous system, while a good pattern ensures a good model.
