Using both television drama and plays discuss uses of drama and theatre in contemporary Kenyan society
Theatre has been increasing important in Kenya since 1990. This kind of interaction is referred to as theatre for development. Additionally, most of the factors have resulted to this renaissance one being the repeal of Section 2(A) of the Kenyan constitution which led to the expansion of democratic space in the country. Since the inception of theatre, a lot of development have been witnessed in the field where it has enjoyed the new freedom of expression to the greatest extent addressing diverse issues like HIV-AIDS, female genital mutilation and constitutionalism. Consequently, Theatre for development has become part of promoting change in Kenya since it has enhanced study of nature in cultural aspect. Theatre for development has been integral in utilizing theoretical models which establishes tested procedures for theatre development practitioners and scholars across the globe. The models are utilized to optical analysis and describe the practice of theatre for development in Kenya in terms of procedures and methodology. Despite of the effectiveness of the theatre for development, the field experiences different challenges from economic aspect, political and economic perspectives.
