Family deterrence: Most parents are not interested and lack understanding of school systems. additionally, most parents are illiterate and would face communication difficulties with school administrators.
Child deterrence: Parental involvement declines as students grow older. Adolescents tend to stay away from their parents.
School factors: Some schools lack resources to facilitate parental involvement.
Societal factors: Lack of support from external agencies and services.
Cultural barriers: Teachers and parents come from different cultures, class backgrounds, and levels of educational attainment. If parents perceive the school as judgmental or condescending, they may feel even more intimidated and unwelcome.
