Printmaking was motivated by the engravings that had been used prehistoric periods found on cave walls and stones. The idea of multiplication led to the development of a roller and finally the printing press which is sophisticated used today. Painting, on the other hand, has been used since prehistoric time by various cultures to express their authenticity and the heritage as a people.however, the development led to advanced adaption of painting as a profession with elaborate modifications. Drawings begin with use of silver-points that were used in 1500s, followed by the use of charcoal on the cave walls. After that, came the chalk and pastel which were used in France and finally the use of use pens. the pencil was introduced and it has gain relevance up to date in small scale drawings that require utmost precision while large scale drawings uses pen and wash.
The factors that affect the choice of a style by the artist include childhood experiences, lifestyle, movies and artists. Furthermore, the type of style, originality and scale of the work art determine the choice of the technique to used.
