At the end of a story the man has used a full pack of matches and cannot build a fire. Afterward, he decides to run down the trail and reach the camp. The man falls a couple of times and finally, he sits quietly and falls into a peaceful sleep. And later a dog moves close to the man and catches the smell of death.
