Vascular plants are plants that have specific tissues providing the transport of water, minerals, and sugars between the parts of the plant. As a result, vascular plants have differentiated xylem and phloem. These plants comprise several taxonomic groups including ferns, horsetails, clubmosses, conifers, and flowering plants.
Non-vascular plants are plants that lack any specialized transporting tissues. Water exchange in the non-vascular plants is not mediated by xylem and phloem. These plants comprise mosses, liverworts, hornworts, and algae.
