Naturalism is referred to as theatre that attempts to create an illusion of reality through a range of dramatic and theatrical strategies. Its principles are that the play should be realistic, the conflicts in the play should be issues of meaningful life-altering significance and the play should be simple. In general, naturalism suggests the role of families, social condition and environment in shaping human character. Therefore for a play to be naturalistic, it must adhere to the three principles and be based on the idea that environment determines and governs human character.
