The conclusion of Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" is ironic in that the death of Mallard has been inevitable not because she has a bad heart, but because of she has had a “heart trouble”. Her joy finally released is what causes her death as she cannot bear the news that her husband Bently Mallard is not dead.
