In a crane, the chain sprocket is driven by a motor on the spindle of which
is keyed a pinion of 14 teeth. This meshes with a gear of 68 teeth keyed
to the same spindle as a pinion of 12 teeth. The last gear meshes with a
gear of 50 teeth keyed to the same spindle as a gear of 25 teeth, and
the latter gear meshes with a gear of 54 teeth keyed to the chain sprocket
spindle. Chain sprocket is 16 ½ 𝑖𝑛. in diameter. Sketch the arrangement
and find the number of revolutions per minute of the motor when 20 ft of
chain are wound on the drum per minute.
