Answer to Question #258059 in Mechanical Engineering for Allan

Question #258059

A surface condenser for a non reheat turbine exhausts 6 kg/sec of steam at 6.8 KPaa (tsat = 38.5C) with circulating water entering at 27C and a terminal temperature difference 4C. Overall coefficient of heat transfer is 3.6 KW/m2-C and water velocity is assumed to be 2.13 m/sec. Tube type ¾ in 18 BWG (OD = 17 mm; t = 1.3 mm). Tube sheet thickness is 12 mm. Assuming two tube passes design and 2210 KJ/kg of heat rejection, determine the actual length and total number of tubes required by the condenser.

Distance from point (2,3) to the line 3x+4y+9=0

r=27/5r= 27/5

r=5.4r=5.4

The given lines are

4x3y=12=>4x3y12=04x−3y=12 =>4x−3y−12=0

4x3y=8=>4x3y+8=04x−3y=−8 =>4x−3y+8=0

The lines are parallel. The distance between the lines is;

r=20/5r=20/5

r=4r=4
