A young engineer owns a car, which has only 32 litres of fuel tank capacity. For
once a month he needs to travel to visit his parent’s house that is located 140km
away from his home. Given that the car’s fuel economy is 33 MPG (miles per
gallon (UK)), the fuel’s heating value and density are 42,000 kJ/kg and 0.75
kg/Litre respectively; calculate:
(a) The estimated monthly energy consumption (kJ/km); and
(b) The budget (MYR/month) that he needs to allocate to cover the travelling
cost every month, assuming the current petrol prices.
