What is a purpose of a commutator?
A communicator is important in ensuring that Direct Current (DC) is converted
efficiently into an Alternating Current (AC). It enables and facilitates the transmission of electric
current within and along the motor windings in the same direction. As a rotary switch, it also has
the effect of reversing the direction of current within the space between rotor and the switches in
the outside circuits. In effect, it creates a stable rotating force that keeps the electrical current
flowing, especially in electrical generators.
