Which non-aqueous solvents are used to dissolve the following:
(a) grass;
(b) paint;
(c) nail polish;
(d) oil;
(e) chewing gum
There are two main solvents for chewing gum: turpentine and naphtha (petroleum, long-chain alkanes). The same solvents can be used for oil, paint oil and nail polish, but for last one acetone is the most popular solvent. In case of grass really good solvent is copper ammonia complex in ammonia, but it may be unsuitable for dissolving other substances.
