Compare the advantages and disadvantages of methyl alcohol and glycerin as antifreeze substances in automobile radiators.
Antifreeze, any substance that lowers the freezing point of water.
Glycerol has the advantage of being non-toxic, withstands relatively high and low temperatures, and is non-corrosive and non-toxic. It is not however used widely due to its costs.
Methanol is relatively cheap and has a low freezing point. However, methanol is very toxic and its boiling point is low comparing to glycerol and ethylene glycol.
