Consider the compounds: A= 2-chloro-2-methyl butane B= 2-chloro butane C= chloro propane. Which will undergo dehydrochlorination and why?
All of this compounds will be dehydrochlorinated under the proper conditions, for example in the presence of NaOCH3 in methanol. The easiest dehydrochlorination is going to happen with A, then B and then C, because A is tertiary alkil halid, B is secondary and C is primary. For C the amount of alkene will be the lest, comparing to B and A.
